Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the maintenance optimization of the Framo centrifugal
pump and identify the factors causing component overheating onboard MT. AKRA
103. This pump plays a vital role in ensuring smooth liquid cargo discharging
operations, but its performance declined due to sub-optimal maintenance. Using a
descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through 12 months of onboard
observation, interviews with the engine crew, and documentation studies of the
Planned Maintenance System (PMS). Problem analysis was systematically conducted
using a Fishbone Diagram. The results revealed that the primary maintenance issue
stemmed from the inconsistent execution of the PMS calendar schedule. Meanwhile,
overheating was dominantly caused by clogged cooling lines and delays in lubricant
replacement, which triggered wear on the bearings and mechanical seals. As a
solution, it is recommended to transition to a running-hours-based PMS and schedule
regular cooling filter cleaning and lubricant replacement to maintain pump reliability
during vessel operations.
