Abstract:
Harnanto, Derry Septyan Dwi. 2025. " The Influence of ISM Code Implementation and
Crew Understanding of the ISM Code on Ship Accidents at PT Pertamina International
Shipping”
This study aims to analyze the influence of the implementation of the International
Safety Management (ISM) Code and crew members' understanding of the ISM Code on
ship accidents at PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS). As a national shipping
company with a strategic role in energy distribution, PT PIS faces significant safety
challenges, as evidenced by the high number of incidents involving its fleet. This
research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method through questionnaires
distributed to 70 respondents, including ship crew and relevant staff. The findings reveal
that the implementation of the ISM Code has a significant effect on reducing ship
accidents, and the crew's understanding of the ISM Code greatly contributes to improving
operational safety. However, the study also identifies key obstacles, such as insufficient
training and lack of discipline in following safety procedures, which remain the primary
causes of incidents. The study recommends enhanced training, routine evaluations, and
the strengthening of safety culture as key strategies to minimize accident risks within PT
PIS operations.
