OPTIMALISASI PELAKSANAAN SOP TANK CLEANING GUNA KELANCARAN PROSES BONGKAR MUAT OIL PRODUCT PADA STUDI KASUS DI MT. SAMBU

Abstract

MT. Sambu experienced delays due to several improper implementations. Before the tank cleaning activity was carried out, the role of the deck officer onboard was not optimal in coordinating with the crew (ABK) during safety meetings, particularly in enforcing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), despite the importance of SOP implementation prior to conducting tank cleaning. Another obstacle encountered was the lack of provision of the necessary equipment and materials needed for the tank cleaning activities on board MT. Sambu. This study aims to optimize the implementation of tank cleaning procedures aboard MT. Sambu, operated by PT. Pertamina International Shipping, to ensure smooth and timely cargo handling operations. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis during the author's 12-month sea practice on MT. Sambu. The findings reveal key challenges, including a lack of crew awareness and supervision in implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), as well as inadequate supporting equipment on MT. Sambu. The proposed solutions include conducting safety meetings and familiarization to provide training and guidance on tank cleaning Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), enhancing crew understanding and skills training on board, procuring adequate equipment, as well as carrying out regular maintenance and repairs on tank cleaning support tools on board. The implementation of these solutions is expected to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of tank cleaning operations, reduce the risk of workplace accidents, and expedite ship operational processes.
