Abstract:
Ramadhan, Farhan 2025 “Optimization of Cargo Handling Equipment Availability
and Port Area for Smooth Ship Operations at Semayang Port Balikpapan”
This study aims to analyze and optimize the availability of cargo handling equipment and
the operational layout of Semayang Port Balikpapan to enhance ship operational
efficiency. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected
through observation, literature review, and documentation. The findings reveal that the
lack of cargo handling equipment and limited operational space are the primary
constraints to port efficiency. Proposed solutions include implementing a Smart
Equipment Management System (SEMS) for digitalized equipment management and a
Zonal-Based Port Operational Layout (ZPOL) for spatial optimization. The
implementation of these strategies is expected to reduce ship waiting times, improve
cargo handling productivity, and support the transformation of Semayang Port into a
smart port.
