Cooling Pipe On The Steam Condensation Process On The LNG Ship EkaPutra 1”
The main condenser is one of the crucial components in the cooling system of LNG/C
Eka Putra1, which functions to condense steam from the steam turbine into condensate
water. The efficiency of the condenser is highly influenced by the smooth flow of
seawater as a cooling medium. This study aims to analyze the impact of blockage in the
main condenser cooling pipes on the steam condensation process. The method used is a
descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through direct
observation, interviews with the ship’s engineers, as well as literature study and
documentation during sea practice. The results show that the drop in seawater pressure
and the rise in condenser temperature are caused by blockages due to plastic waste, marine
organisms, and scale caused by galvanic corrosion. These blockages disrupt heat transfer
and reduce condensation efficiency.Handling efforts are carried out through the condenser
backwash procedure and routine cleaning of cooling pipes, as well as optimizing the
Marine Growth Prevention System (MGPS) to inhibit marine organism growth. The study
concludes the importance of regular maintenance and proper operational procedures to
maintain optimal performance of the main condenser and prevent disruptions to the ship’s
main propulsion system.
