Muhammad Raja Navazsiva. 2025. " Optimization of Dual Fuel Diesel Engine
Generator on MV.AVENIR ACHIEVEMENT Ship”
This study aims to optimize the performance of the Dual Fuel Diesel Engine (DFDE)
generator system aboard the MV. Avenir Achievement. DFDE technology enables
engine operation using both gas and diesel fuels, offering high efficiency and lower
emissions. However, two main operational issues were identified: an ineffective
lubrication oil (LO) cooling system and high exhaust gas temperature. Using a qualitative
approach with observation, interviews, and documentation conducted over a 12-month
sea practice, it was found that overheating was caused by underperforming freshwater
cooling pumps and clogged cooling lines. Meanwhile, incomplete combustion was
triggered by dirty air filters, suboptimal turbocharger function, and unbalanced
generator load distribution. Analysis using the Fishbone Diagram method helped
systematically identify root causes. Recommended solutions include regular maintenance
of pumps and filters, cleaning of freshwater lines, and the installation of real-time
temperature sensors. The findings are expected to serve as a practical reference for
improving DFDE system maintenance and management, ensuring more efficient,
reliable, and environmentally friendly ship operations.
