Abstract:
This study examines the decrease in seawater heating temperature in the Fresh Water
Generator (FWG) evaporator on the LPG/C Gas Ship Ares, which results in decreased
freshwater production. The purpose of this study was to identify the causes of the decrease
in heating temperature and determine its impact on FWG performance.
The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques
including observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Data analysis
was conducted using the Fishbone Diagram method to identify the root cause of the
problem.
The results showed that the decrease in heating temperature was caused by the formation
of scale on the evaporator and leaks in the heating pipes of the Jacket Cooling Fresh
Water (JCFW) system. This condition hampered heat transfer, resulting in suboptimal
evaporation and decreased freshwater production. Efforts to address this problem
included chemical cleaning of the evaporator and replacing leaking heating pipes.
