Abstract:
The feed water boiler pump is an essential component of a ship's boiler system,
responsible for continuously supplying feed water to the boiler. Bearing damage can
increase vibration levels, resulting in reduced pump performance, operational disruptions,
and more serious mechanical failures. Therefore, a monitoring system capable of
detecting abnormal vibration at an early stage is required to prevent severe damage.
This study aims to design and develop an ESP32-based vibration monitoring and
alarm system for the early detection of bearing damage in a ship's feed water boiler pump.
The proposed system utilizes an MPU6050 vibration sensor to measure vibration levels,
an ESP32 microcontroller for data processing, an I2C LCD to display measurement
results, a buzzer as an alarm indicator, and the Blynk application for real-time remote
monitoring. The research adopted the Research and Development (R&D) method, which
includes the stages of system design, prototype development, testing, and performance
evaluation.
The results of this study indicate that the vibration monitoring system for the ship's
feed water boiler pump based on the ESP32 microcontroller and the ADXL345 sensor
was successfully designed and functioned properly. The system was capable of detecting
changes in bearing vibration levels in real time, displaying the measurement results on
both the LCD and the Blynk application, and classifying vibration levels into four
categories: Normal, Warning, High, and Very High. The buzzer alarm was automatically
activated when the vibration value reached or exceeded the predetermined threshold of
6.5 mm/s, providing an early warning of potential bearing damage. Therefore, the
developed system is feasible for use as a vibration monitoring and early bearing damage
detection tool for ship feed water boiler pumps, while also supporting the implementation
of predictive maintenance to improve the reliability of ship machinery systems.
