This study aims to analyze the implementation of the container lashing process and identify
factors influencing its effectiveness in ensuring cargo safety onboard the MV. HMM
DAON. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with a case study approach.
Data were obtained through direct observation during onboard sea practices and
documentation in the form of the Cargo Securing Manual (CSM), bay plans, and ship
operational documents. The results indicate that the container lashing process was
essentially carried out in accordance with the procedures set out in the Cargo Securing
Manual (CSM), CSS Code, and International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations,
which include equipment preparation, installation of twist locks, use of lashing rods and
turnbuckles, final inspection, and supervision during the voyage. However, several
obstacles remain in practice that impact the effectiveness of lashing, including wear and
tear on lashing equipment, uneven crew skills, suboptimal supervision, and limited loading
and unloading time, which leads to rushed lashing. Therefore, increased supervision, crew
training, regular equipment inspections and maintenance, and the implementation of more
structured work procedures are needed to ensure optimal cargo safety during shipping. |
