Abstract:
PT Amas Samudra Jaya is a crew manning company that plays a role in meeting
the seafarer human resource needs of shipping companies. The success of the
crew recruitment process is influenced by the suitability of the crew’s documents
and work experience. This study aims to analyze the influence of these two
variables on crew recruitment at PT Amas Samudra Jaya using a quantitative
method with an associative approach. Data were collected through a
questionnaire distributed to 62 respondents, consisting of company staff and
crew members, and were subsequently analyzed using validity tests, reliability
tests, classical assumption tests, correlation analysis, multiple linear regression,
the coefficient of determination, t-tests, and F-tests with the assistance of IBM
SPSS software.
The results of the study indicate that the validity of crew members’ documents
and their work experience have a positive and significant effect on crew
recruitment, both partially and simultaneously. This is evidenced by t-statistics
of 4.787 and 2.394, respectively, with significance levels of 0.000 and 0.020, as
well as an F-statistic of 83.505 with a significance level of 0.000. The correlation
coefficient (R = 0.860) indicates a very strong relationship between the
independent and dependent variables, while the Adjusted R-Square value of
0.730 shows that 73.0% of the variation in crew recruitment can be explained
by the consistency of crew documents and the crew’s work experience, while the
remaining 27.0% is influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study.
Therefore, companies are advised to strengthen oversight of the completeness
and validity of crew members’ documents and to ensure that prospective crew
members’ work experience meets the requirements in order to secure high-
quality and competent human resources.
