The smoothness of loading activities on tanker vessels greatly depends on cargo
tank readiness, which is largely determined by the crew's competence in carrying
out tank cleaning according to established procedures. This research was
motivated by a delay in the berthing and loading schedule of MT. GERALDINE
on December 8, 2024, when the cargo tank was declared unfit by an independent
surveyor due to being dirty, wet, and containing sludge at the bellmouth. The
research problems addressed are the level of crew competence, the level of
loading smoothness, and whether and to what extent crew competence influences
loading smoothness on MT. GERALDINE. This study employed a quantitative
correlational approach using a questionnaire distributed to 30 respondents,
analyzed through validity, reliability, correlation, determination, simple linear
regression, F-test, and t-test using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The results show a
correlation coefficient of r = 0.652 (strong category) with a coefficient of
determination of R2 = 42.6%. The t-test yielded t-calculated = 4.554 > t-table =
1.701, sig. 0.000 < 0.05, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This study
recommends that the company enhance tank cleaning training, crew members
improve work discipline, and future researchers include additional variables. |
