| dc.description.abstract | Waste management onboard ships is a primary focus of international maritime regulations under MARPOL 73/78 Annex V and Annex VI. On MV. CS. Vanguard, the incinerator serves a crucial role as an auxiliary machinery designed to dispose of domestic waste and sludge oil through high-temperature combustion. However, the operational performance of the incinerator experienced a decline, hindering efficient waste burning. This study aims to analyze the technical constraints affecting the combustion system. A descriptive qualitative method was utilized, with data collected through observation, interviews, and a review of the manufacturer's instruction manuals. The results indicate that the performance decline was triggered by ignition failure due to heavy carbon buildup on the burner components and poor fuel atomization within the combustion chamber. This optimization issue was further identified as a consequence of low fuel injection pressure and a clogged diesel oil (D.O) filter. In conclusion, inadequate planned maintenance on these critical components reduced combustion efficiency. The author recommends stricter adherence to the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), regular cleaning of the burner and chamber, and timely replacement of fuel filters to maintain the operational reliability of the incinerator. | en_US |
