| dc.description.abstract | This study aims to analyze the causes of the performance decline of the Fresh Water Generator (FWG) onboard the SS. ENERGY FRONTIER and to determine appropriate corrective measures to restore freshwater production capacity to normal levels. Based on operational data and the ship's logbook, a significant decrease in freshwater production was observed, dropping from a normal capacity of 30 tons/day to 15 tons/day. The data collection methods employed in this study included field observation, in-depth interviews with the Chief Engineer and Second Engineer, and documentation analysis through the Planned Maintenance System (PMS). The data analysis was conducted using the Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagram to identify contributing factors, specifically Man (Manpower), Machine, and Method. The results indicate that the decline in the FWG system’s efficiency was primarily caused by damage to the sealing groove on the evaporator plates, which led to leakage, as well as scale accumulation on the heat exchanger surfaces due to poor seawater quality and suboptimal cleaning schedules. Recommended remedial actions include a comprehensive overhaul, replacement of deformed components, and stricter crew adherence to scheduled maintenance procedures to prevent future system performance degradation. | en_US |
