Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to the suboptimal utilization of the
Dual Fuel Diesel Engine (DFDE) Generator as the main power source on FSRU Jawa
Satu and to formulate improvement efforts that can be implemented to enhance the
reliability and efficiency of the ship's power generation system. This study employed a
qualitative descriptive research method. Data were collected through observations,
interviews, and documentation studies. The data were analyzed using the Fishbone
Analysis method to identify the root causes of the problems based on human, machine,
method, material, measurement, and environmental factors. The results indicate that the
high exhaust gas temperature during gas mode operation was caused by the Gas
Admission Valve (GAV) not functioning optimally and the low methane gas pressure
before entering the Gas Valve Unit (GVU). In addition, the low methane gas temperature
and pressure before entering the GVU were caused by the suboptimal performance of the
Low Duty Compressor (LDC) and unstable vapour gas conditions. These conditions
resulted in incomplete combustion, thereby reducing the performance of the DFDE
generator, combustion efficiency, and the continuity of electrical power supply during
ship operations. Improvement efforts include conducting periodic maintenance and
inspections of the GAV and LDC in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System
(PMS), improving routine monitoring of operational parameters, and maintaining stable
vapour gas pressure and distribution to ensure the gas fuel system operates efficiently,
safely, and reliably.
