Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the crew's level of understanding regarding waste segregation
procedures, measure the effectiveness of waste management aboard MT Akra 105, and
identify factors causing low discipline in maintaining the Garbage Record Book. The
quantitative method was employed, with data gathered through questionnaires,
observations, documentation, and literature review. Data were analyzed using validity,
reliability, correlation, determination, simple linear regression, and t-tests.The results
indicated that the crew's understanding of MARPOL Annex V regulations has a positive
and significant impact on the effectiveness of waste management (regression coefficient
0.920). However, understanding varies due to differences in tenure and educational
background. Additionally, external factors such as the availability of disposal facilities
and master's supervision also influence waste management effectiveness .In conclusion,
enhancing crew understanding is crucial to maximizing waste management effectiveness.
It is recommended that the company conduct pre-joining briefings, regular onboard
training, and provide adequate waste management facilities.
