This research was motivated by the low level of crew competence in understanding the
material provided through the Before Joining Safety Training (BJST) and the suboptimal
performance of crew members at PT Pertamina International Shipping. Given the
importance of competence in supporting safety and work effectiveness on board ships,
the company implemented the BJST program as an effort to improve crew knowledge,
skills, and readiness before carrying out their duties. This study aims to determine the
influence and contribution of BJST on crew performance at PT Pertamina International
Shipping.
This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were obtained
by distributing questionnaires to 43 crew members of PT Pertamina International
Shipping. Data analysis was performed using validity tests, reliability tests, normality
tests, correlation coefficient analysis, simple linear regression, coefficient of
determination, and hypothesis testing.
The results showed that the implementation of BJST was categorized as good and crew
performance was categorized as very good. The correlation coefficient value of 0.790
indicates a strong relationship between BJST and crew performance. The results of the
hypothesis test show a calculated t value of 8.245 which is greater than the t table of
xvii
2.019, so that BJST has a positive and significant effect on crew performance. The
coefficient of determination value of 62.41% indicates that BJST contributes to improving
crew performance, while the remaining 37.59% is influenced by other factors outside the
study. |
