Abstract:
Electrical installations on ships are highly susceptible to damage due to environmental
factors such as high humidity and extreme temperature fluctuations, which can accelerate
corrosion and increase the risk of short circuits. Therefore, an effective monitoring system
is required to detect environmental conditions early, ensuring safe navigation and ship
operations. This research aims to create and develop a prototype of a temperature and
humidity monitoring system using Internet of Things (IoT) technology as a preventive
measure against damage to electrical installations. The research method used is Research
and Development (R&D) employing a prototyping model. This model consists of several
stages: planning, design (covering hardware and software), and testing. The system
utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller as the main processing component, a DHT22 sensor
for data acquisition, and the Blynk application along with a 16x2 LCD screen to display
real-time results. The research results indicate that the developed prototype is capable of
accurately monitoring temperature and humidity parameters. The feasibility level
obtained from expert validation reached 92%, while the practicality level provided by
seafarer respondents reached 91.2%. The system is highly effective in providing early
warnings through buzzer sounds and smartphone notifications, thereby assisting in
problem prevention before they occur and enhancing the performance and reliability of
the electrical system on board.
