Abstract:
This research discusses the optimization of fuel oil system maintenance to support the
performance of the main engine on MV. Ever Clear. The fuel oil system plays an important
role in the combustion process; therefore, any disturbance in this system can affect the
operational performance of the main engine.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through
direct observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study during the writer’s sea
practice on board MV. Ever Clear.
The results show that fuel oil system maintenance was not fully optimal due to the vessel’s
tight operational schedule, limited maintenance time, and limited spare parts availability.
These conditions caused delays in the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), especially on
the injector and backwash filter element. The impacts included decreased fuel pressure,
filter blockage, poor fuel atomization, and disruption of the main engine combustion
process. The recommended efforts are improving PMS discipline, managing spare parts
properly, and increasing crew awareness of the importance of machinery maintenance.
