| dc.description.abstract | The seawater cooling system plays a vital role in preventing overheating of the MT. JUPITER's main engine components due to combustion and friction. However, during operation, this pump frequently experiences technical problems that hinder the engine's heat absorption. This qualitative descriptive study aims to examine the causes of decreased suction power in the seawater cooling pump and the factors that trigger excessive vibration in the pump shaft, along with mitigation measures. Through direct observation, interviews with engine room crew, and a study of the ship's manual documentation, the data analysis indicates that the decreased suction power in the seawater cooling pump is caused by severe corrosion in the impeller component, while the excessive vibration in the pump shaft is triggered by physical damage to the rolling bearing components (ball bearings). Based on these findings, it is concluded that consistent periodic maintenance through the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) is necessary, along with the replacement of corroded impeller components and damaged ball bearings to restore shaft rotation stability and optimize the smooth operation of the main engine cooling system. | en_US |
