Demurrage is an additional cost incurred due to delays in the loading and unloading
process beyond the laytime agreed upon in the Charter Party contract. High levels of
demurrage can impact satisfaction, trust, and the sustainability of the partnership
between charterers and shipping companies. This study aims to determine the effect of
demurrage on charterer responses to PT. World Source Indonesia and to quantify the
magnitude of this impact.
The research method used was quantitative with a descriptive approach and simple
linear regression analysis. Data collection was conducted by distributing questionnaires
to respondents related to vessel chartering activities at PT. World Source Indonesia. The
data obtained were then analyzed using validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests,
correlation coefficients, coefficients of determination, and t-tests to determine the effect
of demurrage on charterers' responses.
The results showed that demurrage significantly influenced charterers' responses, with a
significance level of 0.000 < 0.05 and a calculated t-value of 46.695 > t-table of 2.069.
The higher the demurrage level, the lower the charterers' positive response to the
company. The resulting impacts include increased objections to additional costs,
decreased satisfaction levels, and reduced charterer confidence in continuing the
partnership. Therefore, more effective operational management, improved coordination
between relevant parties, and oversight of the loading and unloading process are needed
to minimize demurrage. |
