This study examines the decline in freshwater production in the Fresh Water Generator
(FWG) on the MV Glovis Diamond. The Fresh Water Generator is a critical auxiliary
device on board the ship, producing freshwater from seawater to meet operational and
crew needs. The problem is the decline in freshwater production, resulting in suboptimal
production. This study aims to identify the factors causing the decline in freshwater production in the
Fresh Water Generator and the ef orts taken to address this issue. The research method
used is a qualitative descriptive method using a fishbone diagram. Data collection was
conducted through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review during
sea practice on the MV Glovis Diamond from August 2024 to August 2025. The results indicate that the decline in freshwater production in the Fresh Water
Generator was caused by several factors, including corrosion of the ejector nozzle, damage to the orifice in the feed water pipe, salt scale buildup on the evaporator, and
dirt buildup on the condenser. These factors hinder the evaporation and condensation
processes, resulting in a decline in freshwater production. Ef orts to address these
issues include routine maintenance, cleaning the evaporator and condenser, replacing
damaged components, and conducting inspections according to the procedures in the
instruction manual. With regular maintenance and repairs, the Fresh Water Generator can return to
optimal performance, ensuring the ship's fresh water needs are met and supporting
smooth ship operations. |
