dc.description.abstract This research was prompted by the suboptimal inspection and monitoring system for hold conditions on the MV. Lumoso Karunia IX, which still relies on manual visual inspections. This method has limitations in terms of accuracy and continuity, and is unable to provide real-time information regarding temperature and humidity conditions inside the holds. This has the potential to cause delays in detecting changes in environmental conditions that could affect cargo quality and the efficiency of the loading process. The objective of this study is to analyse the application of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system to improve the effectiveness of hold condition monitoring and support efficiency in the bulk cargo loading process.This research employs a qualitative approach, utilising data collection techniques such as direct observation, interviews and documentation during the course of the sea training. The data obtained was analysed descriptively to identify the issues encountered and to evaluate the implementation of an IoT-based monitoring system as a solution. The research findings indicate that the manual monitoring system currently in place is unable to provide information quickly and accurately, which could potentially lead to delays in decision-making during the loading process. Furthermore, the limited manpower and time available for conducting direct inspections inside the holds present a major obstacle. The implementation of an IoT-based monitoring system enables real-time and continuous monitoring of temperature and humidity, allowing the crew to monitor the hold’s conditions via monitoring devices without the need for direct inspections. This results in improved efficiency in terms of time and manpower, whilst supporting the smooth operation of the bulk cargo loading process. en_US
