dc.description.abstract The global energy sector has experienced significant growth with the increasing utilization of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a cleaner and more efficient alternative energy source. In LNG carrier operations, maintaining cargo tank pressure within safe operating limits is a critical requirement due to the continuous generation of boil-off gas (BOG) during storage and transportation. The Gas Combustion Unit (GCU) is an essential component designed to safely dispose of excess BOG through controlled combustion, thereby ensuring cargo tank pressure stability and compliance with safety regulations. This study aims to analyze the impact of irregular LNG distribution schedules on cargo tank pressure stability and to evaluate the operational effectiveness of the Gas Combustion Unit (GCU) under non-ideal operating conditions onboard LNGC EKAPUTRA1. A qualitative research approach was employed, with data collected through onboard observation, documentation review, and in-depth interviews with ship personnel. The data were analyzed using comparative methods to identify deviations between actual operational practices and established procedures in accordance with international maritime standards. The findings indicate that irregular distribution and regasification schedules contribute significantly to cargo tank pressure fluctuations, which may compromise operational safety and efficiency. Furthermore, the performance of the GCU has not been fully optimized due to factors such as limited system integration, inadequate operational awareness, and operational disturbances including trips and blackouts. These conditions reduce the effectiveness of BOG management and increase reliance on corrective actions. It is therefore recommended that operational improvements be implemented, including the establishment of a structured and consistent cargo handling schedule, enhanced coordination between ship systems, and improved operational procedures for GCU utilization. In conclusion, the optimization of GCU operation is a key factor in maintaining cargo tank pressure within safe limits. Proper management of BOG not only ensures compliance with international safety standards but also enhances operational efficiency and supports environmentally responsible LNG transportation. en_US
