Abstract:
Air compressor is an auxiliary device on board a ship that produces high-pressure air for
ship operations and maneuvering, such as on KM. Binaiya which uses the Neuenhauser
Kompressorenbau NK HD 40 type. This study aims to analyze the causes and mitigation
measures for the decrease in compression pressure on the Main Air Compressor. Using a
qualitative approach method with triangulation techniques through field observations, the
results of the study identified that damage to the Connecting rod and damage to the
suction and exhaust valves caused the main cause of the decrease in air compressor
performance. Mitigation efforts were carried out through structural repairs based on the
Planned Maintenance System (PMS) as well as intensive monitoring of working hours
and operational parameters such as pressure, temperature, and leak detection. The
conclusion of this study confirms that the integrity of the components and the stability of
the air compressor performance are highly dependent on the discipline of routine
maintenance including valves, air filters, and intercoolers and lubricant replacement in
accordance with the specifications of the manual to ensure the smooth operation of the
ship continuously.
