This study aims to analyze the causes of decreased seawater pump pressure in the
main engine cooling system on board M.H. Thamrin vessel and its impact on the performance
of the main engine. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method with
a fishbone (cause-and-effect diagram) analysis approach to identify the contributing factors.
The results show that the decrease in seawater pump pressure is caused by two main
factors, namely machine factors and environmental factors. Machine factors include damage
to the ball bearing which results in unstable pump rotation, while environmental factors are
caused by clogged strainers and seachests due to dirt such as mud, sand, and marine
organisms. These conditions lead to reduced cooling water flow, causing the main engine
temperature to increase and potentially result in overheating..
The corrective actions that can be taken include replacing damaged ball bearings
according to specifications and performing routine cleaning of strainers and seachests. With
proper maintenance, the cooling system performance can be optimized, and the main engine
operation can run smoothly. |
