dc.description.abstract The Fresh Water Generator (FWG) is a critical piece of equipment on a ship that converts seawater into fresh water to meet the needs of the crew and ship operations. On the MT. PETROSAMUDRA, a decline in fresh water production was observed, which has the potential to disrupt operations on board. This study aims to identify the factors causing the decline in fresh water production and to find solutions to restore the FWG’s performance to optimal levels. Based on field observations and analysis, the decline in freshwater production was attributed to insufficient steam pressure from the auxiliary machinery, suboptimal vacuum conditions, scale buildup on the heat exchanger, and high salt content in the seawater. Measures that can be taken to restore freshwater production include routine maintenance such as cleaning heat exchangers, inspecting vacuum pumps, and properly controlling temperature and pressure so that the ship’s freshwater needs can be adequately met. en_US
