This study aims to identify the cause of the increase in freshwater cooling temperature
in the main engine on the MV ship. PUSRI INDONESIA 1. The coolant on the main
engine is an important component in maintaining a stable and optimal operating
temperature to support engine performance during the voyage. Based on the author's
experience during sailing practice, it was found that there was a disturbance in the
cooling system which was characterized by an increase in the temperature of the fresh
water cooler from 70°C to 88°C, thus triggering an alarm sounding and slowing down
the movement of the main engine. This research uses a qualitative method with a case
study and problem solving approach, as well as data collection techniques through
observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study will show that the
cause of the increase in cooling temperature is the dirty sea chest filter and the clogging
by sea garlic manure contained in the fresh water cooler tubes. Both conditions inhibit
heat exchange efficiency and cause the cooling engine to not work optimally. Efforts to
solve problems are carried out by carrying out routine maintenance according to the
planned maintenance system, cleaning the sea water filter, and regular maintenance.
This research improves technical understanding and serves as a reference for engine
officers in maintaining the ship's cooling system. |
