Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the influence of work coordination and crew skills on the
success of cargo hold cleaning during the transition from dirty cargo (iron ore) to clean
cargo (wheat) on board MV. Pacific Blessing. The problems addressed include
suboptimal work coordination, insufficient crew skills, and the failure to consistently
achieve wheat-ready cargo hold standards. The research population consists of ship crews
involved in cargo hold cleaning activities, with samples determined based on research
requirements. A quantitative approach was employed through questionnaire distribution.
The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, instrument testing, multiple linear
regression, correlation, coefficient of determination, and hypothesis testing. The results
indicate a positive and significant influence of work coordination and crew skills on the
success of cargo hold cleaning. This implies that better coordination and higher crew
competency contribute to improved cleaning performance and compliance with required
standards. It is recommended that ship management enhance effective communication,
ensure clear task allocation, and provide regular technical training to improve crew
competency and achieve optimal cargo hold cleanliness standards.
