Abstract:
The operational performance of tanker vessels is highly influenced by the cargo
pumping system, particularly the Cargo Oil Pump (COP), which functions to transfer
liquid cargo from ship tanks to shore receiving facilities during the unloading process.
Any disruption in this system may hinder unloading operations and reduce overall
operational efficiency. This study was motivated by several issues identified in the Cargo
Oil Pump onboard MT. Katomas during sea practice, including abnormal noise during
operation and the mismatch of wearing impeller dimensions with standard specifications.
These conditions potentially reduce pump performance and disrupt the unloading process.
This study aims to analyze the causes of COP damage and its impact on unloading
operations. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study
approach, employing observation, interviews, and documentation techniques.
The results indicate that the damage is caused by internal component wear,
particularly a wearing impeller that does not meet standard specifications, as well as
mechanical disturbances that generate vibration and abnormal noise. These conditions
lead to a decrease in pump pressure and capacity, resulting in suboptimal unloading
operations. Corrective actions include routine maintenance, replacement of worn
components, and operation in accordance with established procedures.
