This research was motivated by container damage during the muat process on MV. HMM Hanul caused by less optimal supervision during cargo handling activities, the absence of comprehensive final checking, and the unavailability of an Internet of Things (IoT)- based monitoring system in the form of CCTV. This study aims to analyze the causes of the absence of final checking and the implementation of an IoT system to improve the effectiveness of cargo supervision on board. The research used a qualitative method with a fishbone analysis approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study during sea practice on MV. HMM Hanul from August 10, 2024 to August 12, 2025. The results showed that the problem was influenced by the less optimal implementation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), weak supervision, high crew workload, and limitations of the manual monitoring system. In addition, the absence of CCTV in the cargo hold area caused container damage to be detected late. The recommended solutions are conducting comprehensive final checking up to the cargo hold area and installing CCTV on the lashing bridge area to improve the effectiveness of loading and unloading supervision and minimize container damage. |
