Abstract:
The main propulsion engine on a ship is highly dependent on the performance of the
fuel injection pump system. This system functions to supply high-pressure fuel to the
injector for perfect combustion in the main propulsion engine. This study aims to
identify and analyze intensive efforts in the maintenance of fuel injection pump
components to address problems of plunger barrel damage, the amount of soot residue
in the fuel injection pump components, and wear on other components. This study was
conducted based on the author’s sea practice on MT. Success Victory XXXIV, where
cases of damage such as plunger barrel damage and the amount of soot residue in the
fuel injection pump components were found. The results of this study are expected to
provide practices in preventing component damage and maintaining fuel injection pump
performance, in order to maintain fuel quality and support the operation of the main
propulsion engine on board the ship optimally.
