This study aims to analyze operational problems in the inert gas generator system
that hamper the loading and unloading process on the MT. Pangalengan ship. The
main problems identified were due to unplanned maintenance schedules for the inert
gas generator and the failure of the combustion system on the inert gas generator as
well as the high risk of accidents from the impact of high oxygen levels. This study
uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study on the MT. Pangalengan
ship. Data collection through direct observation during sea practice, in-depth
interviews with the Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, Third Engineer, Fourth
Engineer and Electrician, as well as documentation studies (Log Book, maintenance
records) and the collected data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively assisted by
Fishbone Diagrams to identify the root causes of the problem. The results of this
study indicate that the lack of crew understanding in implementing the Planned
Maintenance System on the IGG system, as well as suboptimal maintenance
schedules and practices on IGG components and the impact of increased oxygen
levels are the main factors identified in IGG operational problems. Based on these
findings, the study recommends an operational analysis strategy for the inert gas
generator (IGG) system towards risk prevention and mitigation during the loading
and unloading process. |
