The injektor is an essential component in the combustion system of a marine diesel
main engine. Its function is to spray fuel into the combustion chamber in the form of a
fine mist to ensure optimal combustion. A decline in its performance can significantly
affect engine efficiency, fuel comsumption, and exhaust gas emissions. This research
was conducted to identify the main causes of injektor performance deterioration in the
main engine of MV. Noah Asyera, focusing on two major onfluencing factors : nozzle
blockage and excessive contamination in the fuel oil service tank.
This study applied a descriptive qualitative approach. The fishbone analysis technique
was used, and data were collected through direct observation of engine conditions,
interviews with the ship’s engineers, and documentation during onboard practice. Data
analysis was carried out using a case study and promblem solving method, supported by
data from the ship’s logbook and manual book. The result indicate that injektor nozzle
blockage mainly occurs due to incomplete combustion caused by contaminated fuel and
insufficient routine maintenance. In addition, suboptimal fuel filtration processes
contribute to the entry of dirt and water into the combustion system.
To addres these issues, injectors must undergo periodic maintenance, including
cleaning, pressure testing, and replacement of worn components. These measures have
proven effective in restoring injektor performance and maintaining the efficiency of the
main engine. It is hoped that this research can serve as a reference for marine
engineering officers in maintaining combustion systems, while also contributing to the
development of the engine maintenance management in the maritime industry. |
