Widyantor, Taufik Agung. 2025. ‘’The Effect of Coal Loading Delays on Preventing
Idle Time and Ensuring Smooth Vessel Operations at Bontang Coal Terminal, East
Kalimantan’’
This research aims to determine the effect of coal loading delays on the operational
efficiency of vessels at Bontang Coal Terminal, East Kalimantan, particularly in avoiding
idle time. The main issues examined include low productivity of conveyors, delays in
barge deliveries, as well as weather disruptions and lack of coordination. The study uses
a quantitative approach, with data collected through questionnaires, observations, and
literature review. The research population includes ship crew, surveyors, agents, conveyor
technicians, and shippers, with a sample size of 35 respondents. Data analysis techniques
involve descriptive statistics, validity and reliability tests, simple linear regression
analysis, and hypothesis testing. The results show that coal loading delays significantly
impact idle time and reduce vessel operational efficiency. It concludes that barge delays
and technical issues in conveyor systems are the primary causes of disrupted operations.
Recommendations include improving inter-party coordination, routine maintenance of
equipment, and workforce training to minimize idle time.
