Pratama, Tengku Dafa Randy. 2025. " Analysis of Cracking in Cargo Manifold
Reducer During Unloading Process on Gas Amarin Jaya Ship”
This research was motivated by the discovery of a crack in the cargo manifold reducer
during the unloading process of propane on the LPG vessel Gas Amarin Jaya. The
objective of this study is to identify the root causes of the failure and to propose effective
problem-solving alternatives. A qualitative descriptive method was applied, using a
Fishbone Diagram approach to map out the contributing factors. The findings reveal that
the main causes of the crack were the excessive operational age of the reducer and the
absence of a bottom support structure to bear the load during unloading operations.
Additional contributing factors include the lack of a component runtime recording
system, delayed spare part procurement, and the absence of a specific maintenance SOP
for the reducer. Based on the analysis, the recommended solutions include the
implementation of a preventive maintenance program based on operational hours and the
design of a proper support system in accordance with maritime safety standards. The
adoption of these measures is expected to reduce the risk of equipment failure and
improve unloading efficiency. |
