Abstract:
Adnanto, Ilham. 2025. “The Effect of Work Commitment in Watchkeeping
Implementation on Officer Performance on Board S.S. Energy Advance”
This study analyzes the influence of work commitment and watchkeeping implementation
on officer performance aboard S.S. Energy Advance. The background of this research
stems from issues such as lack of discipline, late watch shifts, inadequate monitoring, and
poor reporting during operations. A quantitative approach was used through a survey
method involving 36 crew members, with data analyzed using descriptive statistics. The
results show that both work commitment and proper watchkeeping have a significant and
positive effect on officer performance. Officers with high commitment levels tend to be
more disciplined, timely, and accurate in reporting, and comply with procedures, thereby
enhancing operational safety and efficiency. Based on these findings, it is recommended
that shipping companies improve watchkeeping supervision, provide regular training, and
monitor crew’s physical and mental condition to maintain optimal performance. These
findings are expected to serve as practical guidance for ship management in developing
policies that enhance officer performance and ensure overall maritime safety.
