Abstract:
Tuharea, Sania Zeinrina. 2025. “Analysis of the Influence of Current Strength on the
Smoothness of the Unmooring Process on the S.S Energy Frontier Ship”
This study aims to analyze the influence of ocean current strength on the smoothness of
the unmooring process on the LNG Carrier S.S. ENERGY FRONTIER. The problems
raised focus on operational obstacles during unmooring due to strong ocean current
conditions, such as the middle stern line incident caught on the ship's propeller at Hibiki
Port, Japan.
The population in this study was the entire crew of the S.S. ENERGY FRONTIER ship,
totaling 30 people, who were also used as samples using the total sampling technique
(census). The approach used is quantitative correlational, with data collection methods in
the form of field observations during sea practice and distributing questionnaires. The
research instrument has been tested for validity and reliability using the help of SPSS
Statistics 26 software.
The data analysis technique was carried out using the Pearson Product Moment
correlation test, t-test, and coefficient of determination test. The results of the study
indicate that the strength of the ocean current has a significant influence on the
smoothness of the unmooring process, with a correlation value of 0.743 and significance
(sig) <0.05. This proves that the stronger the ocean current, the more likely the unmooring
process is to experience technical disruptions or operational time.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a strong and significant relationship between
the strength of the current and the smoothness of the ship's unmooring, so special attention
is needed to monitor the current conditions before and during unmooring. The author
suggests that port operators and captains improve coordination, update SOPs based on
local environmental conditions, and use tools such as tugboats and real-time current
monitoring systems to minimize operational risks.
