dc.description.abstract Sianturi, Bryan Lexus Hasian, 2025. “Design of air quality monitoring system based with Arduino on board” Air quality in a ship's engine room plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of the crew, while maintaining the optimal performance of the machinery. This research aims to design an Arduino Uno microcontroller-based air quality monitoring system that is able to detect the presence of harmful gases in real-time. The system uses an MQ-135 sensor to monitor the concentration of gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and other pollutant compounds. When gas levels exceed the threshold, a buzzer will sound as a warning alarm, while an automatic DC fan helps circulate air. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the stages of needs analysis, hardware and software design, laboratory trials, expert validation, and field testing by users. The test results show that this system has a feasibility level of 85% according to expert validators and a practicality level of 84.8% based on user responses, so it is declared feasible and practical to use. The implementation of this monitoring system is expected to help detect air pollution in the engine room more quickly and accurately, as well as improve work safety and compliance with maritime safety regulations. en_US
