ANALISIS KEGAGALAN START ENGINE PADA SEKOCI UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KESELAMATAN PENUMPANG DAN KRU DI KM. BINAIYA

Abstract

Pandiangan, Gosla Heindrich, 2025. “Analysis of engine start failure on lifeboat engines to improve passenger and crew safety on KM. Binaiya” This study aims to analyze the causes of engine start failure on lifeboats on KM. Binaiya and provide solutions to improve the reliability of the lifeboat system in emergency conditions. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) approach, which is complemented by direct observation, literature study, and documentation during the implementation of sea practice for 10 months. The results of the study indicate that there are two main factors causing engine start failure, namely disruption to the lubrication system caused by filter blockage and lack of routine maintenance, and corrosion of cables and connectors due to water and dirt entering the lifeboat. Fishbone diagram analysis is used to systematically identify causal factors, including human, machine, method, material, and environmental aspects. As a solution, this study recommends strengthening preventive maintenance procedures, periodic replacement of lubricant filters, periodic inspection of the electrical system, and the application of protection against moisture and dirt. These findings are expected to be a real contribution in improving the effectiveness of lifeboat operations and overall maritime safety
