Siregar, Daniel Marco Anjuando. 2025. " Analysis of Methanol Fuel Utilization as
Dual Fuel in Maintaining Main Engine Injector Performance on Board MT. Savonetta
Sun”
The development of the maritime industry demands the use of environmentally friendly
alternative fuels, one of which is methanol. The use of methanol in marine main engines
offers advantages such as lower emissions and cleaner combustion. However, it also
presents technical challenges, particularly in the fuel injection system. This study aims to
analyze the use of methanol fuel in maintaining the performance of main engine injectors,
with a case study on the MT. Savonetta Sun. The problems identified include nozzle
breakage in the injector and variations in exhaust gas temperature between engine
cylinders. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected
through observation, direct interviews with engine crew, and document analysis. The
results show that nozzle damage is caused by factors such as overheating, sticking in the
Fuel Booster Injection Valve (FBIV), and suboptimal lubrication and cooling systems.
Furthermore, the difference in exhaust gas temperature is caused by atomization
disturbances due to nozzle damage. The findings highlight the importance of routine
maintenance, prevention of sticking, and optimization of the methanol injection system
through regular purging and flushing procedures. |
