The freezing of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) in cargo tanks hinders unloading operations and
reduces tanker efficiency. This study analyzes the implementation of tank cleaning to
address CPO freezing and identifies technical factors affecting the unloading process on
MT. RHINE.
The research uses a qualitative descriptive method through direct observation, interviews
with officers and crew, and documentation. It also evaluates the effectiveness of cleaning
methods and the impact of temperature and time.
Findings show that freezing is caused by unstable temperatures and suboptimal tank
heating. Inadequate cleaning procedures and lack of temperature monitoring worsen the
issue. However, proper heating, steam application, and equipment maintenance can
minimize these obstacles and support smoother unloading.
