Alamsyah, Imam Bernando. 2025. “Analysis of Leakage in Vent Pipe of
Pressure/Vacuum Valve (P/V Valve) to Prevent Pressure Drop in the Hold Space of Gas
Carrier Walio”.
Hold space is a critical area located between the ship's hull structure and cargo tanks,
which must be maintained at specific pressure and oxygen levels to prevent fire hazards
and structural damage to the tanks. During operations, a case of hold space pressure drop
was identified, caused by a leakage in the P/V valve pipeline.
This research was conducted using a qualitative method based on direct observation
during sea practice aboard the Gas Walio vessel, supported by technical documentation
and literature studies. The findings reveal that the main contributing factors to the issue
are pipe corrosion, lack of routine inspections, and poorly implemented planned
maintenance system (PMS).
The author recommends regular inspections of the P/V valve pipeline, the use of
inspection checklists in accordance with ISM code standards, prioritization of critical
equipment maintenance, and supervision during maintenance activities. The
implementation of these strategies is expected to effectively prevent pressure drops in the
hold space and enhance overall vessel safety. |
