dc.description.abstract Idrus. 2025. "Analysis of HFO and MDO Fuel Consumption on the Power Output of the Main Engine on Board MV. DREAM DIVA” This study aims to analyze the effect of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and Marine Diesel Oil (MDO) consumption on the power output of the main engine on board the MV. Dream Diva. The research is motivated by the critical role of fuel efficiency and engine performance in ship operations, which are highly influenced by the type and quality of fuel used. The main issues addressed include differences in chemical composition, viscosity, and calorific value between HFO and MDO, as well as their impact on engine power output. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing data collection methods such as observation, documentation, and questionnaires distributed to the ship's crew. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with the aid of SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results indicate that MDO provides better combustion efficiency and higher engine power compared to HFO, despite its higher cost. Conversely, HFO, although more economical, leads to greater carbon deposits and exhaust emissions, necessitating more frequent engine maintenance. MDO is also considered more environmentally friendly due to its lower sulfur content. The conclusion of this research highlights the significant impact of fuel selection on main engine performance and overall operational costs. It is recommended that shipowners consider long-term efficiency and environmental factors when choosing the type of fuel to be used. en_US
