DAMPAK MENURUNNYA PRODUKSI REVERSE OSMOSIS TERHADAP PEMAKAIAN AIR TAWAR PADA KAPAL CS TENEO

Fisabilillah, DananJaya. 2025. “The Impact Of Decreasing Reverse Osmosis Production On Fresh Water Usage On Board Cs TENEO” Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a desalination system used to convert seawater into freshwater, which plays a vital role in supporting ship operations, especially for daily consumption and technical needs on board. This study aims to analyze the impact of reduced RO production on freshwater usage aboard the CS Teneo cable ship. The research was conducted over a 12-month sea practice period using a qualitative descriptive method, employing techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the decline in freshwater production was caused by several factors, including reduced suction pressure in the booster pump, clogged sea chest filters and impellers, and blockages in the fine filters and RO membranes. The drop in booster pump suction pressure directly affected the volume of seawater processed, while filter obstructions disrupted the seawater-to-freshwater conversion. As a result, the amount of freshwater produced daily was insufficient to meet the needs of the vessel’s crew. To address these issues, routine maintenance and cleaning of RO components were carried out, including the use of specialized cleaning chemicals. Evaluations of the corrective actions demonstrated improved freshwater production performance. The study concludes that regular maintenance and technical understanding of the RO system are essential to ensure optimal operation and to support the safety and comfort of maritime activities aboard the CS Teneo.
