PENGARUH PERAWATAN HATCH COVER TERHADAP KESELAMATAN MUATAN DI MV. DEWI AMBARWATI

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of hatch cover maintenance on the entry of water into the ship’s hold which can damage the cargo. The problem studied is the lack of hatch cover maintenance which has the potential to cause water leakage into the hold. Which results in damage to cargo such as coal. This study was conducted on the MV. DEWI AMBARWATI ship owned by PT.Pelita Global Logistic, with a population of all ship crews and samples taken by census from 34 respondents. The approach used is quantitative with data collection methods through observation, documentation, and questionnaires. The data obtain were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation coefficients to measure the relationship between hatch cover maintenance (independent variable) and cargo safety (dependent variable). The results of the study showed that hatch cover maintenance had a significant effect on cargo safety, with a coefficient of determination of 66,3%. which means that variations in cargo safety can be explained by variations in hatch cover maintenance. The results of the hypothesis test showed that H0 (no significant effect) was rejected and H1 (significant effect) was accepted. researchers recommend that hatch cover maintenance be carried put routinely and involve all crew members involved to prevent cargo damage due to leaks. Gasket repairs and stricter supervision of operational procedures are also needed.
