Abstract:
The purging process at the manifold is a critical stage in LNG cargo unloading
operations aboard the LNG/C ST. Ekaputra 1. This process aims to remove residual
LNG from the pipeline before disconnecting the arms, ensuring both crew safety and
operational efficiency. This study was prompted by delays observed during the purging
phase, particularly at PGN FSRU Lampung, where operations took longer than at other
terminals. The research aims to analyze the factors affecting purging efficiency,
including the quality and pressure of nitrogen (N₂) and the skill and coordination of the
ship’s crew. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied, utilizing data collection methods such as observation, documentation, and interviews conducted during onboard training. The results revealed that inadequate nitrogen pressure and poor crew communication
were the main causes of extended purging duration. To address these issues, the study
recommends regular maintenance of the N₂ generator, periodic crew training, and the
development of more detailed and clear standard operating procedures (SOP).
This research is expected to contribute practically to LNG cargo handling
operations, improving both safety and turnaround time during port stays.
