dc.description.abstract This research aims to analyze and optimize the performance of the main engine cooling system on the MT. Sumber Cahaya 68 vessel to support smooth engine operations. The cooling system plays a crucial role in maintaining engine temperature within the normal operating range. However, issues such as blockages in the heat exchanger and corrosion in the seawater pump have been identified, leading to decreased cooling efficiency. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method through direct observation during onboard training, interviews with engine officers, literature review, and documentation. The findings indicate that blockages in the heat exchanger were caused by the accumulation of sludge and marine debris, while corrosion in the pump resulted from the deterioration of zinc anodes and inadequate routine maintenance. Solutions implemented include cleaning components and conducting regular maintenance, including replacing damaged parts. Optimizing the cooling system has proven effective in stabilizing engine temperatures and preventing severe damage. This study is expected to serve as a practical reference for ship crews in managing cooling system issues more effectively. en_US
