Abstract:
This study focuses on the implementation of a safety management system
onboard, which is one of the most crucial aspects of ship operations particularly on tanker
vessels such as MT. Gas Attaka, which carries high operational risks. The objective of
this research is to analyze the application of the safety management system based on the
Fleet Management Manual (FMM) and itsimpact on minimizing onboard work accidents.
A qualitative comparative method was used, involving direct observation, interviews with
crew members, and documentation analysis of FMM records and safety incident reports.
The findings show that consistent implementation of the FMM-based safety management
system, both onboard and at the company level covering safety procedures, regular
training, and incident reporting systems significantly contributes to the reduction of
workplace accidents onboard. Therefore, the successful implementation of the FMMbased safety management system is a key strategy in fostering a culture of safety within
a secure and efficient working environment onboard vessels.
