OPTIMALISASI KINERJA PURIFIER UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KUALITAS BAHAN BAKAR MESIN KAPAL MT. GRIYA CIREBON

Abstract

To support the operation of ship engines, the quality of fuel that is free from dirt and water is crucial. The purifier, as an auxiliary device, plays a key role in the fuel purification process. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause the suboptimal performance of the Fuel Oil Purifier on board the MT. GRIYA CIREBON, which results in the presence of water and impurities in the fuel, as well as frequent overflows that lead to fuel being wasted through the sludge tank. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, employing direct observation, documentation study, and interviews. Based on the analysis, the main causes of the problem include improper selection of the gravity disc, malfunctioning solenoid valve timer, and insufficient maintenance of the bowl disc. Solutions applied to address these issues include adjusting the purifier's operational parameters, conducting regular maintenance, and replacing damaged components. The results of the study indicate that with proper maintenance and operation according to standards, the purifier’s performance can be optimized, thereby improving fuel quality and supporting the efficiency of the ship's engine operations.
