Abstract:
The research results indicate that the stiffness of the safety pin toggle on the lifeboat
handbrake is caused by weather changes and exposure to seawater, leading to rust. To
address this, it is necessary to maintain the safety pin toggle on the lifeboat handbrake by
inspecting it weekly and applying oil and grease lubrication. Meanwhile, some crew
members were unaware of their duties and responsibilities during lifeboat lowering due
to rare implementation of launching lifeboat drill. This can be addressed by third officer
as an assist safety officer distributes sheets of duties and responsubilites when launching
lifeboat drill with the aim of understanding and memorizing them as a form preparation
for dealing with emergencies.
The conclusion of this study is that the stiffness of the safety pin toggle on the lifeboat
davit handbrake is caused by corrosion due to exposure to seawater, weather conditions,
and human negligence such as lack of maintenance and routine inspections. Additionally,
some crew members were unaware of their duties and responsibilities during the lifeboat
launch due to rare implementation of launching lifeboat drill.
